Greenplum and Anchor modeling: How dreams shutter against reality

Two years ago in Yandex Go (then Taxi) data storage, it was decided to create the detailed layer using one of the modern approaches — Data Vault or Anchor Modeling (which turned into Highly Normalized Hybrid Model after research). Yandex knew that hundreds, even thousands of joins were waiting for them, but they had Greenplum 5, enthusiasm, faith, and courage.

In this talk, Evgeny and Nikolay would like to tell how dreams of architectural beauty shutter against reality. They also highlight a half-year journey in this direction (which is still far from complete), tell about Greenplum inners, and simply advise about whether to repeat their path.
